IRONMAN
IRONMAN’s gain, T100’s pain
Lucy Charles-Barclay, the current IRONMAN World Champion, and Anne Haug, a former IRONMAN World Champion both raced this past weekend at IRONMAN France.
For Charles-Barclay, it was a surprise move as earlier this year she said she would be completely focused on the T100 Triathlon World Tour. And Haug - who skipped last weekend’s T100 race in San Francisco due to injury - got a chance to compete in the 70.3 event. Both athletes used their races to get up close and personal with this September’s World Championship course.
Having both athletes skip a critical T100 race to compete in IRONMAN events strikes a significant blow to the startup series’ effort to become the signature global Professional triathlon series.
Blummenfelt to the Tour?

Oh Canada
Canada’s Olympic Triathlon team was named. The team will be led by 2x Olympian, Tyler Mislawchuk and he’ll be joined by first-time Olympians Charles Paquet and Emy legault.
Most Olympic triathlon teams have now been named except notably Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain. It is rumored that the latter two are undergoing heated appeals from unselected athletes.

YOU SAID
Here’s what Tempo readers thought about whether cities should bid on World Triathlon Championship events.

Reader: Leeds in the UK should be back on the map ( Home of the Brownlee brothers.
Reader: WTCS is to expensive now for its worth. Places like China can put on 5-6 Conti cups 2-3 world cups and a WTCS cause they have an unlimited budget and places. The Middle East as well with Saudi doing Asian champs and a World Cup next year. It be nice to go back to the big cities of Lausanne, Chicago but it just doesn’t seem financially doable with less countries doing WTCS regular races either.
Reader: I got to compete in Worlds in Abu Dhabi. It was an awesome event and a fantastic vacation. Changed my view of that part of the world. Without the tri, I probably would have never visited there. Now I cannot wait to go back some day and I spread the word to all of my friends.
Reader: Yes, absolutely cities should bid on WTC events! Not only does it help highlight our sport, it moves away from major league sports and allows normal, everyday individuals to see themselves as future participants.
Reader: Consideration for travel, accommodations and other types of amenities are really better in some bigger places than smaller ones that get pricey to travel and find a place to stay.
Reader: I've been lucky enough to be on Team USA at 10 age group world championships, but the last one was 10 years ago. I have no idea if any of the host cities thought it was worth it after hosting the event. I can say as athlete, the championships in the US are terrible compared to those almost anywhere else. Why, because in the US, no one but the competitors cares about the race. In Europe or NZ, large crowds come out to watch & cheer you on. It's fun to race where you feel like your in "The Tour”
