Riviera Rumble Sees T100 and World Triathlon’s Future At Stake!
Plus: When do you actually need to replace your running shoes?

Good morning everyone,
I’m back home after a short stint in the Munich region for a good friend’s wedding. When I was over there, I found myself doing what I often do when I travel to a new place.
Envision what it would be like to train there…We all do that, right? 😂
If I did live there, I’d probably spend many miles running along the beautiful Isar River. Probably not as many as these guys, but plenty for me!
Now, it’s back home and back to the routine. Which, fortunately, involves getting this newsletter into your inbox!
In today’s edition:
🌊 Riviera Rumble sees T100 and World Triathlon’s future at stake!
🍓 Ten inflammation-fighting foods.
👟 And when do you actually need to replace your running shoes?

ONE BIG THING
Riviera Rumble Sees T100 and World Triathlon’s Future At Stake!

T100
What is it: This weekend, triathlon history hits the French Riviera as the first-ever joint T100 Triathlon World Tour and World Triathlon Championship Series event takes place.
With both professional and age-group athletes on the start line, the stakes are incredibly high as both entities hope to deliver a spectacle on course and secure a place in the sport’s future.
Women’s T100: After an all-time battle in London, the women’s T100 race in the French Riviera sees notable starters absent. London-winner Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR), and Taylor Knibb (USA) are skipping to prepare for October’s IRONMAN World Championships. Kate Waugh (GBR) and Julie Derron (SUI) both have had unexpected injuries and illnesses which will keep them sidelined.
So, for the fifth time this year, a new Women’s T100 champion will be crowned. Ashleigh Gentle (AUS), typically a T100 podium stalwart, will be looking for that elusive 2025 victory.
Jessica Learmonth (GBR) - 3rd at T100 Vancouver - Paula Findlay (CAN), and Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR) are also top picks for the podium.
Men’s T100: After an inspiring win in London post-car collision, Hayden Wilde (NZ) is firmly the man to beat. And with momentum on his side, plus a technical and hilly bike course, it’s hard to see anyone coming close to the Kiwi.
However, if Rico Bogen (GER) runs the same T100 San Francisco-winning bike breakaway playbook, he could put enough time into Wilde ahead of the run.
And Jelle Geens (BEL), with his incredible run pedigree, is always in the conversation for the win!
Women’s WTCS: In what looks to be the race of the weekend, the women’s WTCS French Riviera features a five-way battle for crucial series points. Cassandre Beaugrand (FRA), the Olympic gold medalist and WTCS Algerho victor, will be looking to relive her Paris magic on home soil. But she’ll have plenty of competition from her countrywoman, Leonie Periault - the recent WTCS Hamburg champion.
Jeanne Lehair (LUX), who won in Yokohama, Lisa Tertsch (GER), the WTCS Abu Dhabi winner, and Olympic bronze medalist Beth Potter (GBR) will all make this race a must-watch!
Men’s WTCS: The men’s race also features a heavily anticipated matchup between three short-course powerhouses. Olympic gold medalist Alex Yee (GBR) makes his return to the WTCS circuit after an early-season focus on the London marathon. Hayden Wilde, the WTCS Abu Dhabi champion, returns to the World Triathlon racing ready to resume his World Title campaign.
And Matthew Hauser (AUS), the current WTCS leader, is hoping to hold off both of them and record his third win of the season.
Tempo’s take: When the 12-year agreement between the T100 and World Triathlon was signed last year, this combined race weekend was surely a core element. On paper, it looks to be a win for both entities.
Instead of competing with each other for the triathlon world’s attention, they are consolidating it. And with unique storylines that include Hayden Wilde and Morgan Pearson’s attempt at the “double” (competing in both T100 AND WTCS races), it makes for a compelling weekend of competition.
But of course, it wouldn’t be a T100 event without some hiccups. Age group athletes who were expecting an iconic one-loop bike course had the rug pulled when the T100 couldn’t get the correct permits. They’ll now be compressed into a 6-loop course.
It’s now or never for the T100 and World Triathlon as they go all in on a combined race weekend motto. Now it’s time to find out if they have the cards to pull it off.
