Why triathlete and consultant Paul Weston advocates for systems over goals
Paul Weston - Triathlete and consultant
Paul Weston is an Age Group triathlete, a multiple Ironman finisher, and has represented Triathlon Canada at two Multi-Sport World Championships. He is the author of the International #1 Best-Selling Book: Running in the Rain.
First off, how did you become a triathlete? And where was your entry into the sport?
After playing rugby from the age of seven up to my mid-thirties, I turned to running a couple of years later when I got a place in the London Marathon. After that, I didn’t do much more than play golf for a few years and unfortunately put on some weight.
Then in my early fifties realized my health was not in the best of shape and started doing some CrossFit, but in 2014 followed a friend of mine as she trained for Ironman Mont Tremblant and on a whim, entered Ironman Muskoka (the only 140.6 version of the race) before I had EVER even tried a triathlon.
Two days after registering I did my first ‘Try-a-Tri’ and realized I had a tough year ahead of me.
Have you learned any lessons from Triathlon that you’ve applied to your professional life?
