ONE BIG THING
In a Fight for Survival, T100 and World Triathlon Combine Races

World Triathlon
What is it: The T100 Triathlon and World Triathlon have announced that Valencia, Spain will host the Spanish leg of the T100 Triathlon World Tour on September 20th.
The event will also be held in conjunction with the World Triathlon World Cup Valencia.
The race weekend will also feature age group sprint and super sprint distance events.
An ever closer union: After signing a historic 12-year strategic partnership, World Triathlon and the T100 have seen their relationship deepen. Next month, T100 will produce the T1 Indoor Triathlon World Cup, which sees athletes compete in a fast-paced indoor triathlon.
Tempo’s take: When World Triathlon and the T100 signed their 12-year agreement, it seemed like all sizzle and no steak. But this move signals that the relationship is not just a fling and could point to what World Triathlon/T100 events could look like in the future.
With a T100 event plus a World Cup plus a smaller age group event footprint, the Valencia model looks to be a minimum viable event structure that could someday grow to a T100/WTCS Race plus a 3000+ age group event.
It’s a brilliant move and a real opportunity for World Triathlon and the T100 to fight back against IRONMAN. By combining the races, both entities gain more athlete and media attention than they would on their own, and maybe, future revenue gains from age group entries!
Who knows what things will look like in 12 years, but with this move, it could see the T100 hanging around a lot longer than many expect!
