INTERVIEW
The Trials, Errors, and Triumphs of Tom Bishop
Who is Tom Bishop? For more than a decade, Tom Bishop (GBR), has been competing at the highest level of short-course racing with an impressive resume including,
๐ฅ at WTCS Abu Dhabi in 2017.
๐ฅ and ๐ฅ at Under 23 World Championships.
๐ฅ at Junior World Championships.
Tom recently dipped his toes in the long-course world with quick success finishing 4th at Clash Daytona against heavy hitters including Vincent Luis (FRA) and Jason West (USA).
We checked in with Tom as he reflects on his short-course career, and builds towards a big 2023 racing the best Ironman and long-course athletes.
Tom's lasting short-course memory?
"WTCS Abu Dhabi 2017 when I finished second to Jamieโs Gomez with Vincent Luis' third."
"I never expected that result, but found myself in a battle with Javier with two kilometers to go."
Tom's advice for jumping to longer racing?
"Give yourself time! Some people make the transition quickly, while others (like myself) need more time to figure it out."
Tom's highlight from 2022?
"Finishing 4th at Clash Daytona was definitely the best feeling I had in racing."
"In a way it saved my triathlon career...the race brought back all the emotions behind why I got into the sport. "

COMMUNITY QUESTION
A Tempo reader asked us:
"Would you consider creating a parody athlete newsletter, similar to The Onion, called The Fartlek?"
This sounds amazing and I'm already chuckling thinking about the articles. Right now we don't have the resources to execute that. But if you are inspired than we would love to feature your work in the newsletter!
Do you have a burning question about triathlon or Ironman? Want to share a racing tip? Let us know and it could be featured in the newsletter.
