In Nice’s Hangover, T100 Athletes Impress!
T100 Spain, creatine for endurance, and gripping your longevity!

TOGETHER WITH BLUESEVENTY
Good morning everyone,
I’ve had some folks ask if I have a race on the horizon, and unfortunatley no good news on that front! I’ve had a previous injury flare up and apparently my broken toe from earlier this year still hasn’t healed up properly.
It’s not a massive injury. But definitely changes the calculus on what I though might be my full distance IRONMAN debut in November.
Am I frustrated? Absolutely. But my team is doing a great job helping me navigate it!
In today’s edition:
🥇 In Nice’s hangover, T100 athlete’s impress!
⚡️ How Creatine improves endurance performance.
✊ And how to get a “grip” on longevity!

ONE BIG THING
In Nice’s Hangover, T100 Athletes Impress!

T100
What is it: This past weekend, the T100 Triathlon Tour landed in Oropesa del Mar, Spain. It was a race that almost didn’t happen after financial troubles forced a venue change from its original location in Valencia.
Although attention was scarce due to its proximity to the IRONMAN World Championships in Nice, Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR) and Hayden Wilde (NZ) still produced buzzworthy performances.
Charles-Barclay Charges to Kona
Swim: It was another stellar swim for Charles-Barclay as she led out with Jessica Learmonth (GBR), Kate Waugh (GBR), and Sara Perez Sala (ESP) on her feet.
Ashleigh Gentle (AUS), the recent winner in the French Riviera, was almost 2 minutes adrift out of the water
Bike: Early on the six-lap bike, the trio of Brits - Charles-Barclay, Learmonth, and Waugh - established a strong lead over the field. Then disaster struck as Learmonth received a costly drafting penalty.
After the Learmonth drop off, there would be no significant lead changes, setting up a rerun of the epic run battle at T100 London!
Gentle would start the run almost six minutes behind the leaders.
Run: It was a two-up battle on the run, and for a while it looked like it would go down to the wire. But with 6km to go, Charles-Barclay made the decisive move.
She would continue to push to the finish line, breaking the tape and becoming the first woman to win multiple T100 races in 2025.
🥇 Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR)
🥈 Kate Waugh (GBR)
🥉 Jessica Learmonth (GBR)
The win puts Charles-Barclay in a tie with Waugh at the top of the T100 Triathlon World Tour standings!
Wilde Wins, Silencing Shoegate
Swim: The swim did little to break the men’s race apart. Vincent Luis (FRA) and recent IRONMAN World Championships aggressor, Jonas Schomburg (GER), lead a group of 15 out of the water.
Hayden Wilde exited the swim only 15 seconds in arrears.
Bike: The bike featured a hectic start, and early penalties to Kyle Smith (NZ) and Rico Bogen (GER) set the tone for a chaotic race.
Wilde would stay in the bunch and under the radar; meanwhile, Jelle Geens would crash, and early race leader Mathis Margirier (FRA) cramped up. A lead group containing Wilde, Geens, Bogen, and Schomburg entered T2.
Could Geens finally get a win over Wilde?
Run: No, he couldn’t. He would run with Wilde for two of the six laps. Then the Kiwi asserted his strength, slowly pulling away from the Belgian. Wilde would win again, his third in a row since returning from devastating injuries after being hit by a truck in May and his first since dealing with the fallout of “shoegate.”
Schomburg, off the back of an incredible race at the IRONMAN World Champs, would display extraordinary spirit, finishing in third.
🥇 Hayden Wilde (NZ)
🥈 Jelle Geens (BEL)
🥉 Jonas Schomburg (GER)
Hayden Wilde now has a commanding lead in the T100 Triathlon World Tour standings heading into the final races of the season.
Tempo’s Take
Only a month before this race was meant to occur, the local organizing committee in Valencia had to bail due to insufficient funding. Not exactly a complete surprise to those of us who have been following the T100…
This race was very close to not happening. And honestly, maybe it shouldn’t have 🤷
This isn’t a slight to everyone involved in making the race happen, or the athletes who put it all on the line in the field of play. Both were commendable.
But putting on a race the week after the most competitive men’s IRONMAN World Championship in history was a mistake. We’re all hungover from the massive Nice party, and the T100 wanted us to rally for another big night out. At my age, it just isn’t going to happen!
Thankfully, T100 has some runway to make these mistakes. It’s just not in a position to try and challenge IRONMAN during Championship season…at least for now.
