ONE BIG THING

Fighting Drafting with Dollars: Race Ranger Seeks Additional Funding

What is it: Precision Triathlon Systems Ltd. known as Race Ranger, is the innovative anti-drafting technology described by athletes and race officials as “absolutely game-changing.” They recently announced they are raising a seed funding round with a target of NZ $1 million, or USD $650 thousand.

  • This public funding round is open to any investor who “loves triathlon, and hates drafting!”

Investment goals: Like any good race, there are clear objectives and goals that the funding will work towards:

  • A redesigned version of the Race Ranger product. The current units are prototypes.

  • Further software development to make it more user-friendly, easier to deploy at events, and scalable.

  • Develop live athlete tracking capabilities and the referee tablet app connection.

Tempo’s take: After incredibly successful trials at events, including the PTO European Open, the World Triathlon Long Course World Championships, and the Tauranga Half, it’s clear that the technology is incredibly effective at catching and discouraging drafting in triathlon.

Although the application of the tech is a bit niche, a successful product could effectively monopolize the anti-drafting space.

  • It’s not hard to imagine the sensors could also be an effective platform for providing real-time data to broadcasts.

So if you’re looking to invest in an innovative company that’s already kind of solved the problem of drafting in triathlon, then definitely take a look at Race Ranger. Because in reality, IRONMAN will probably end up buying them!

Massage Guns, a Masseuse for the Masses

Tima Miroshnichenko

With the Tour De France back in action, it’s a reminder of what it looks like to compete at the highest level of endurance sport. Every aspect of nutrition and recovery is absolutely dialed, with chefs and massage therapists on hand to help the athletes get the most out of their bodies.

Unfortunately, we don’t all get to have a full World Tour team behind our multisport endeavors. But there’s a great tool for when you don’t have a 24/7 masseuse on hand…

The humble, but effective massage gun!

Massage gun benefits include:

  • 🌊 An increase in blood flow.

  • 😌 Relief from muscle tightness.

  • 🦵 Improved post-workout soreness.

  • 🛀 Stress relief!

Personally, we find that the gun is super great at loosening tight neck muscles and quads after a big bike workout.

Keen for a gun of your own? Wirecutter has put together a comprehensive guide based on objective criteria. Check it out for their top five picks.
