  • Mexican sensation Rosa Maria Tapia will be looking to add another WTCS medal to her surprise silver in Yokohama.

IRONMAN Hamburg

This men’s only pro race was supposed to be an epic duel between Olympic Gold Medalists Alistair Brownlee (GBR) and Jan Frodeno (GER) became decidedly less epic when Brownlee pulled out this week. But there are still some big names who will be looking to scalp Frodeno in his final season.

From the front: Watch for Australian super-swimmer Josh Amberger to lead the field out of the water. Frodeno should be on his feet which will set him up well at the start of the bike

The chase will be on during the bike as uber-bikers like Kristian Høgenhaug (DEN), Jesper Svensson (SWE) and Florian Angert (GER) will be pushing to catch the early leaders (which they should).

  • If Matt Hanson (USA) can place himself out of the swim and stay in touch on the bike, the man has a deadly run and could easily be a darkhorse pick for the win.

GOAT gunna GOAT: Most likely if Frodeno comes off in the lead its over. But if Angert has a strong enough swim, than he is the most likely athlete to take down Jan.

Watch the race live on IRONMAN’s YouTube channel. The race starts at 6:15 AM CEST/12:15 AM EST.

Check out our race weekend page for the rest of the events.

Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum, Korea

Women: Magda Nieuwoudt (RSA) is coming off a big win at Challenge Frejus and will be looking to carry her form in Gunsam. She will be challenged by Amy Van Tassell (USA) and Kate Bevilaqua (AUS)

Men: A bit of a wide-open field. Caleb Noble (AUS) should be leading the athletes early, but will be pushed by Guy Crawford (NZ) and Eddie Vinning (AUS).

Watch live on the Challenge tracker.

Challenge Salou, Spain

Men: Mathis Margirier (FRA) coming off his recent win at the Challenge Championship will be the easy pick for the win. But will be tracked by an on-form David McNamee (GBR) and local hero Pablo Dapena Gonzales (ESP).

Women: A trans-tasman battle should break out between Grace Thek (AUS) and Rebecca Clarke (NZ). But having Barbara Riveros (CHI) in the picture won’t allow these women to let up!

Watch live on the Challenge tracker.

World Triathlon Championship Series: Cagliari - Italy

Women: Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR) returned to the top of the podium after making a crucial six-women breakaway.

  • 🥇 Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR)

  • 🥈 Emma Lombardi (FRA)

  • 🥉 Taylor Spivey (USA)

Men: We were treated to an epic duel between Hayden Wilde (NZ) and Alex Yee (GBR) with the brit dropping the kiwi in the final few meters.

  • 🥇 Alex Yee (GBR)

  • 🥈 Hayden Wilde (NZ)

  • 🥉 Leo Bergere (FRA)

Tempo’s take: In the women’s race it continues to be a matter of making the front pack. Even without the usual suspects (Duffy, Knibb, Learmonth), there was still a front group that was able to create a significant gap over the chase. This was the last Olympic distance event before the Olympic test event in August, so the races may take on a different flavor as they shorten up the distances. Onwards to Montreal in about a month.

Ironman Brazil

Women:

  • 🥇 Pamella Oliveira (BRA)

  • 🥈 Mariana Borges de Andrade (BRA)

  • 🥉 Alex Watt (USA)

Men:

  • 🥇 Luciano Taccone (ARG)

  • 🥈 Reinaldo Colluci (BRA)

  • 🥉 Andre Lopes (BRA)

World Triathlon Championship Series: Cagliari - Italy

World Triathlon/Tommy Zaferes

The 3rd stop in this season’s World Triathlon Championship series is the first opportunity for athletes to score points in the second Olympic qualifying period that ends in May 2024.

Women’s race: Taylor Knibb (USA) will be skipping this round. But two other Americans will be taking her place. Olympic gold and silver medalists Gwen Jorgensen and Katie Zaferes will be back on the WTCS start line after stepping away from the sport. They will be joined by fellow Americans Taylor Spivey, Summer Rappaport, Kirsten Kasper, and Erika Auckerlund.

The race will most likely see a non-wetsuit swim. So there will probably be a breakaway ft. Maya Kingma (NED), Spivey, Kasper and surprise Yokohama silver medalist, Rosa Maria Tapia Vidal (MEX).

  • But Olympic bronze-medalist Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR) will be hungry for redemption after a slower start to the year.

  • And Beth Potter (GBR) will no doubt be looking to take her second WTCS win after her triumph in Abu Dhabi.

Men’s race: There are loads of incredible athletes in this race, including Olympic gold-medalist Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR), IRONMAN World Champion Gustav Iden (NOR) and current World Series leader Vasco Vilaça (POR).

But the dominant storyline is surely the head-to-head between Yokohama winner Hayden Wilde (NZ) and fellow super-runner Alex Yee (GBR).

  • If it comes down to a straight up run race between the two, than Yee probably has the edge.

  • But Wilde’s swim has been trending up, and if he can get into a pack with the likes of World Champion Leo Bergere, and a few others. Yee will not be able to chase him down.

Watch the race live: At triathlonlive.tv the races kick off at 11:00 AM CEST, 5:00 AM EST.

IRONMAN Brazil - Florianópolis

Women: Pâmella Oliveira (BRA) is the clear favourite in the women’s race. A strong swimmer she should get to the front early and have the lead moto with her the rest of the day.

  • Argentinian Olympian Romina Palacios should be Oliveira’s biggest competition.

Men: No doubt a big Brazil battle featuring big man Reinaldo Colucci, Tempo subscriber Andre Lopes, and Thiago Vinhal. This race will go all the way to the final miles on the run.

  • But another Argentinian Olympian, Luciano Taccone could play spoiler, and like Messi, take the title.

Apfelland Triathlon - Austria

In the men’s race, Tom Hug (GER), the winner of last weekend’s Challenge St. Polten should use his form to take the W. In the women’s race, it will be a head to head between Svenja Thoes (GER) and Julie Iemmolo (FRA).

Challenge Family Championship - Samorin, Slovakia

Athletes layed it all out on the line for the chance to take home big PTO ranking points, and a slice of the generous Challenge Family World Bonus.

Women: India Lee didn’t let her gears not working basically the entire bike hold her back from taking the impressive win.

  • 🥇 India Lee (GBR)

  • 🥈 Caroline Pohle (GER)

  • 🥉 Sara Perez Sala (ESP)

Men: Mathis Margirier took his first pro win and overcame a ton of big names in doing so! Aaron Royle blessed us with the classic aussie shooey!

  • 🥇 Mathis Margirier (FRA)

  • 🥈 Aaron Royle (AUS)

  • 🥉 Frederic Funk (GER)

Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga, Tennessee

The ladies had their time in the limelight with the women’s-only pro field. It was a stacked lineup of athletes, but Paula Findlay showed that she is on another level of form as we head into the summer as she soloed away on the bike enroute to a 5+ minute lead 🤯.

  • 🥇 Paula Findlay (CAN)

  • 🥈 Danielle Lewis (USA)

  • 🥉 Jeanni Metzler (RSA)

Ironman 70.3 Pays D’Aix, France

Women: Emma Pallant-Browne showed why she is such a consistent performer as she won yet another 70.3 title. Canadian Tamara Jewitt crashed a couple of times on the bike but still pushed for second place.

  • 🥇 Emma Pallant-Browne (GBR)

  • 🥈 Tamara Jewitt (CAN)

  • 🥉 Emilie Morier (FRA)

Men: Dylan Magnien gave a good show for the home crowd against a solid field.

  • 🥇 Dylan Magnien (FRA)

  • 🥈 Bart Aernouts (BEL)

  • 🥉 Bradley Weiss (RSA)

Ironman Lanzarote, Spain

Men: The Sam Laidlow/Cam Wurf bike battle was good, but they should have left something for the run. Arthur Horseau smashed them for the win.

  • 🥇 Arthur Horseau (FRA)

  • 🥈 Niek Heldoorn (NED)

  • 🥉 Cam Wurf (AUS)

Women: Lydia Dant proved her first Ironman Lanzarote was no fluke as she took the tape for the second time in a row.

  • 🥇 Lydia Dant (GBR)

  • 🥈 Liesbeth Verbiest (BEL)

  • 🥉 Jeanne Collonge (FRA)

Challenge St. Polten, Austria

Women: Lotte Wilms (NED) kind of smashed the field taking the win by 7+ minutes.

  • 🥇 Lotte Wilms (NED)

  • 🥈 Daniela Kleiser (GER)

  • 🥉 Carolin Lehreider (GER)

Men: The race was a bit overshadowed by Sebastian Kienle’s second race in a row with a drafting penalty. But Tom Hug managed to best the rest.

  • 🥇 Tom Hug (GER)

  • 🥈 Lukas Hollaus (AUT)

  • 🥉 Ruben Zepuntke (GER)
